Cut that expensive lumber right
to prevent waste

(and make longer snakes)

It took me a while to figure out this trick, when you cut a snake blank you taper the back part toward the tail and waste wood. This way, longer snakes, less waste. first slice off the long length (sizes given are examples) Say you have a 6 ft. long board, 6 inches wide. You could cut it into 6 three foot long 2 inch wide snake blanks.

(Same board, much longer snakes, no waste.)

Or, you could use my trick, slice the first three 2 inch cuts, then overlap the tail tapers (with pencil). If you overlap the tail section about 18 inches you could end up with longer snakes & less waste (see above). You'll have to figure your own measurements and length of the tapers, works pretty good though. And cuts waste.
